When it comes to choosing the look for your bathroom, shape is all-important. Providing that instant visual appeal, the forms you choose will help get you on your way to creating the perfect scheme. With the latest trends for undulating curves and bold geometrics, there are now plenty of options on offer to suit all tastes.

Curvy concepts

In terms of the more rounded pieces, the range available is most extensive. Think huge circular tubs carved from single monolithic stones, arched benches and pebble-influenced basins. Or, you may prefer soft sweeps seamlessly moulded from resin composites with exciting, colourful options? The wealth of natural materials on the market has given rise to smooth, flowing items that are proving very popular with homeowners, due to their ability to set a calming, organic spot in which to unwind.
It’s not all about contemporary chic, however. If you’re looking for something that errs towards the traditional, then try mirroring the shapes of period features found in the room, such as a fireplace or beams, with a classic roll-top and pretty vanity unit.

Straight talking
Don’t assume that a linear style is exclusively in keeping with pared-down, ultra-minimalist design. Although an abundance of angles will certainly make a bold statement when realised in glorious pristine white composite resins, this look can also be tailored perfectly to suit those who may crave a softer, more tactile décor. By simply introducing a variety of different materials and opting for some natural woods for furniture and bath surrounds, it’s possible to bring in an organic aura. Or, why not use personal finds and accessories to add a splash of colour to prevent an overly harsh, clinical feel?

Plus, give plenty of consideration to your storage, too. Clever cabinetry and shelving will house those grooming and pamper products, so that nothing interrupts the fuss-free appearance that’s key here.

Don’t overlook vital brassware fittings either. Whether you decide to go for wall-mounted or deck-set, or maybe freestanding, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From pipe-like designs to joystick-style controls, the finishes available range from chrome and platinum to matt steel and ‘champagne’ to complete the most super-luxe, five-star scheme. But what about flooring? Well, keep it simple with either long and linear boards or seamless stone.

Best of both

Plumping for a plan that combines the two design directions in one space may sound like a tall order. But, fear not, there are plenty of solutions to inspire. In fact, this is a superb way of making sure your room has a very individual décor comprising the best of both worlds. So, why not pair an oval tub with striking rectangular storage cabinets? Or, mix curvaceous display cases with a grand, angular bath? To make your scheme even more personal, consider using some different materials together, like rich wooden basins alongside a glass shower. You can also add pieces that hark back to bygone eras, to give a charming contrast of old and new. Let your creative juices flow and experiment with tone and texture – creating a retreat that’s unique is not only easier than ever but very exciting too!
